Four Signs of Clogged Fuel Injectors

Your car’s fuel injectors are responsible for making sure that a fine mist of fuel ends up in the combustion chamber right where it should be. That all happens just in time for air and spark to make the “boom” your engine needs in order to run. Not sure if your car’s fuel injectors are clogged? Here are some tips from Miller Auto Care.

No Power

You might notice that the power your car had in the past has evaporated overnight. When you press the gas pedal, you expect that your car will respond. What you might feel instead is vibrations, hesitation, or other signs that the car just isn’t responding. These signs all indicate that the engine is starved for fuel that it is not able to get into the combustion chambers of the engine.

Rough Idle

Another difficulty you might run into is hard starting and rough idling. What this means is that your car just won’t turn over when you go to start it. It might try, but without enough fuel, there’s nothing for the spark to light up. Once you get the car started, you might hear a big difference from how it normally runs. You might hear uneven engine sounds or more knocks and pings than usual.

Poor Gas Mileage

The gas that your car’s engine does manage to burn likely isn’t being burned efficiently. You’ll see that as having to go to the gas station more often to fill up. At first, it might be only a minor change in gas mileage. Over time and as the fuel injectors get worse, you’re going to find that the problem becomes more and more obvious.

Check Engine Light

Finally, you might see the check engine light come on in relation to clogged fuel injectors. This happens because your car’s engine isn’t able to run as well when the fuel injectors aren’t working properly. Over time, those knocks and pings get worse and worse and your engine starts to sustain actual damage. That’s a big problem and the check engine light is your sign to find out what’s going on before the situation becomes too dire.
