Your car’s dashboard is full of warning lights and that can be enough to intimidate anyone. But some of the lights you’re likely to see are really important ones. Ignoring them could be bad news. Here’s what Miller Auto Care wants you to know.
Brake Light
Your car’s brake light serves multiple purposes. It lights up when you start the car, and if you’ve got the parking brake engaged, you’ll also see the brake light. If you see it light up at other times, like when you’re driving, that could be a sign that there’s trouble with your car’s brakes.
Temperature Light
Heat is incredibly dangerous for your car’s engine. That’s why there are so many built-in systems that are designed to manage heat in the engine. The temperature gauge and the temperature warning light are your best friends when it comes to noticing that the engine is starting to get too hot.
Battery Light
Without power, your car isn’t going anywhere, even on a full tank of gas. Your car’s engine needs the spark that it gets from the electrical system, and that’s powered by the battery and the alternator. If there’s a problem with either of those, you’ll see a warning light that you should definitely heed.
TPMS Light
If your car has a tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS, there are a few different lights you might want to familiarize yourself with so you can recognize what they mean. Some systems use the letters “TPMS” while others use an image of a flat tire or some other indication that there’s at least one tire with low air pressure. Some systems may even tell you which tire and exactly how much pressure is in the tire.
Check Engine Light
The check engine light can inspire a great deal of intense emotion, but that doesn’t always mean that the problem is big and expensive. Sometimes the check engine light is warning you that there’s a minor issue that needs attention now so that the engine stays in good working order. The sooner you address those sorts of issues, the better.
